A Cheer for Pom Poms (and Giveaway!)

December 26, 2011 | In: Child Nutrition, Consumer Corner, Giveaways

Have you tried POM POMS? No, I am not talking about cheer gear. I am talking about the portable and fresh pomegranate arils made by POM Wonderful.

Recently, I received a sample to try. I really like pomegranates, and look forward to their availability during the Christmas season. If you’ve never tried them, now is the time. In fact, they are only available until February!

Pomegranates are fun to eat! A food you eat the “hard way,” having to carefully remove each little aril from the pith. But if you’re a busy mom or dad, that can be awfully time consuming.

POM Wonderful has come up with an easy and portable way to include pomegranates in your diet—and they’ve done the work for you! Each little aril has been removed from the pith and is ready to spoon into your mouth, onto your cereal, yogurt, or into a salad.

Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants called polyphenols and help to prevent damage your body’s cells can incur from the environment.

In a 4.3 ounce cup, you’ll get 100 calories, 4% of your Daily Value of potassium, 24% DV for fiber, 8% DV for vitamin C and a little protein too. You can also get these in an 8 ounce cup.

As a busy mom who tries to plan ahead, one of the best features for me is this: “Fresh arils can last two weeks in a sealed plastic container in the refrigerator and frozen arils can last for many months in the freezer. To freeze pomegranate arils, spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Place in a freezer for two hours or until frozen. Transfer frozen arils to a resealable plastic bag or container.”

If you’d like to try POM POMS, check them out using this coupon.

Better yet, enter my giveaway! POM Wonderful will give 2 -  8 ounce cups or 4 – 4.3 ounce cups to ONE LUCKY WINNER.
